Technology and systems

Magento 2, Magento Multistore, Merit ERP.

Project scope

  • migration from Magento 1 to Magento 2
  • joining two stores using Multistore
  • an English language version
  • merging the carts of the two stores
  • a module showing the amount missing to reach free delivery
  • an integration with the Merit ERP
  • a payment verification module
  • connecting social media and YouTube content to the platform
  • signing in to an account with social media
  • a blog

The store ran on Magento 1, which limited any further development of the platform

Pierre René had been running its online store on Magento 1 for a long time. Once support for the first version of Magento ended, staying on the older system meant gaps in security and no further development of the platform.

The out-of-date version of the system also caused performance problems and limited how the store could grow. The visual layer it had was falling behind current trends.

Pierre René came to Aurora Creation with the task of migrating the store from Magento 1 to Magento 2. Because the two versions of the platform differ so much, the work covered rebuilding the modules used before and implementing a new visual layer.

See how we run a migration to Magento 2

The situation before the project

  • a store on Magento 1, after support for the first version of the system had ended
  • gaps in the security of the older generation of Magento
  • no further development of the platform
  • performance problems on the store
  • a visual layer falling behind current trends

The main areas of the project

  • 01

Migration from Magento 1 to Magento 2

The project meant moving the store onto Magento 2, rebuilding the modules used in the previous version of the system and implementing a new visual layer.

  • 02

    Running two stores in multistore

Pierre René was running two online stores. Multistore was to bring the administration of their content together while keeping two separate URLs and different visual layers.

  • 03

Merging the Pierre René and Miyo carts

Purchases made in the two stores were to be joined so that products added at Pierre René Professional and at Miyo both ended up in one summary.

  • 04

Releasing an English version of the store

Pierre René wanted to open its range to English-speaking customers as well. The English language version was created with the Multistore feature.

  • 05

    Automating internal processes

The project covered integrating the D2C platform with the Merit ERP system and implementing a bespoke module handling payment verification.

From migrating the platform to automating processes

Delivery covered migrating the store's technical foundation, configuring Multistore, joining purchases across the two stores and implementing the integration and the bespoke modules.

  1. 01

    Migration to Magento 2

We moved the store from Magento 1 to Magento 2. As part of the migration we rebuilt the modules used in the previous version of the system and implemented a new visual layer.

  2. 02

    Joining store administration in multistore

We used the Multistore feature to bring the content administration of the two stores together. The result is two separate URLs, different visual layers and one shared admin panel.

  3. 03

The English version and the shared cart

We used Multistore to create an English language version of the store. We also implemented a module that adds up the products put in the cart at Pierre René Professional and at Miyo into one cart summary.

  4. 04

    The Merit ERP integration

Once we had the data the integration needed, we connected the Merit ERP system to the D2C sales platform. We then ran functional tests checking that the integration worked correctly.

  5. 05

    The further modules

We extended the scope with the payment verification module, the module showing the amount missing to reach free delivery, Instagram and YouTube content inside the store, signing in with social media and a company blog.

Two stores on one Magento 2 installation, with the Merit ERP and brand content

Magento 2 is the foundation of the D2C platform. The Multistore feature was used to run two stores from one admin panel, and the platform was integrated with the Merit ERP system. Further modules connected the store to the content the brand publishes on Instagram and YouTube.

Integrations and content

Multistore made it possible to bring the content administration of Pierre René Professional and Miyo together while keeping separate URLs and different visual layers. A module implemented on top of that adds up the products put in the cart in both stores and presents them in one summary.

What joining the stores in multistore gave

  • two separate store URLs
  • different visual layers
  • one shared admin panel
  • products from both stores in one cart summary

The Merit ERP integration covered

  • sending order status information from the platform to the ERP automatically
  • storing customer information in Merit
  • updating contractor details automatically
  • importing the list of orders to be picked
  • importing the sales document for each order from the ERP
  • assigning a dedicated carrier to an order automatically

The features delivered in the project

Beyond the migration, the multistore architecture and the ERP integration, the scope covered six features the store's customers and the brand's team use.

An English language version

We used the Multistore feature to create an English language version of the store for English-speaking customers.

The English version of the Pierre René store: a promotions category listing and a product page with its description and a price in euros.

The amount missing to reach free delivery

We implemented a bespoke module showing the customer the amount still missing to reach the free delivery threshold.

Instagram and YouTube content in the store

The bespoke modules we implemented present content from the brand's Instagram profile and from YouTube in dedicated blocks of the online store.

Signing in with social media

We implemented a module letting a customer sign in to their store account with social media.

Automatic payment verification

A bespoke module imports the list of daily bank transfers into the Magento admin panel. The list is scanned and verified automatically, after which the tool updates the order's payment status and sends a message back if anything does not add up.

A company blog

As part of the project we implemented a company blog, where Pierre René can publish its own articles and share its expertise.

Magento 2 with multistore, a shared cart and automated processes

The project ended with the Pierre René D2C platform migrated to Magento 2 and with the features and integrations listed in the scope of delivery in place. Multistore joined the administration of two stores, the shared cart brought together the products added at Pierre René Professional and at Miyo, and the Merit ERP and the bespoke payment module automated selected internal processes.

Pierre René Professional and Miyo kept separate URLs and different visual layers, while the administration of their content was brought into one shared admin panel.

Merit ERP
The integration streamlined the order handling processes, and the bespoke module automated the verification of the daily transfer list and the updating of payment statuses.

The features that went in made the store intuitive to move around, and the automation of internal processes let the brand grow in other areas. We give no revenue, conversion, order-count or performance figures — the source material does not carry them.
